I am in Vietnam for the next few days building upon our strong collaboration with the National Institute of Drug Quality Control (NIDQC). Our meetings began with an important renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding with the NIDQC and US Pharmacopeia to increase awareness of the importance of quality and safety of medicines, participate in joint education and training opportunities, and build upon our enduring collaboration in Vietnam.
We are proud to continue our decades-long collaboration with NIDQC to advance the quality of medicines. Recent collaborative efforts include educational, training, and scientific initiatives, such as the pilot project on validating procedures for monitoring nitrosamine impurities to strengthen Vietnam's medicines supply chain integrity work and apply across USP’s work globally. Analytical laboratory systems that meet business and compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical, food, and other industries are my passion. USP, USP <1220>, USP <1058>, ISO/IEC 17025 are a few areas I specialize in.
Great work Ron. I provided some training in Vietnam for the USP a few years ago. The USP is an important part of their quality systems. Glad to see the connection is still strong.

It's showtime here on Day 1 at Vietnam Medipharm Expo in Ho Chi Minh City!!
Not reputed to be a typical pharmaceutical event and definitely not an API centric one, we still thought of giving it a try!
And you know what? I'm definitely glad we did!
After a disappointing CPHI South East Asia, trust me, expectations were kept to a bare minimal!
And I guess when expectations are lowered, we can only be pleasantly surprised!
Vietnam is a super fast developing market that is positioning itself along the standards of EU GMP.
Not our typical WHO GMP Indian standards.
What's frightening is the growing lack of confidence of Vietnamese importers in the WHO GMP manufacturers of India.
To say the least, WHO GMP just doesn't seem enough. A PIC/s or EU GMP is by far more acceptable.
In fact, it's preferable.
In some cases even, demanded.
Makes me wonder if it's only Vietnam that feels this way or is the world starting to raise an eyebrow at Indian standards of manufacturing.
And possibly questioning India's status as the pharmacy of the world.
This is something to surely keep a close eye on and improve upon before it's too late.
Reputation takes decades to build and just minutes to destroy.
The few that spoil the name of many need to be halted right here right now.
Indian pharma's reputation can't be compromised by these greedy and sleazy few - and in no way, should any of us, part of the Indian pharma fraternity, accept the rotten bunch to thrive and prosper at our cost.
The same applies for APIs.
High quality of finished products starts with high quality of raw materials.
No cost cutting here please.
Luckily for Shah TC and Xi He , Vietnam understands that.
And fortunately for Vietnam, so do we.
Stay tuned for Day 2 tommorow!
📽 A special big thanks to Sisy Jiang, our resident South East Asia manager and her cutie little boy, for a wonderfully entertaing first day here!
