Jaap Venema, Ph.D., Chief Science Officer & Chair, Council of Experts
Jaap Venema, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer (CSO) for USP, leads the organization’s scientific strategy and development of quality standards for medicines, dietary supplements, food ingredients and healthcare practice. He oversees implementation of the USP Science Quality Framework, which grounds quality standards development in pharmaceutical science to increase public trust in medicines. He guides exploration of emerging technologies that may inform future quality standards; oversees collaborations with other pharmacopeial and scientific groups; and serves as Chair of USP’s Council of Experts, the group that spearheads the development of science-based public quality standards.
Fouad Atouf, Ph.D., Vice President Global Biologics
Fouad Atouf is Vice President, Global Biologics, for USP. He leads all scientific activities related to the development and maintenance of documentary and reference standards for biologics and antibiotics, and oversees the biologics laboratories in USP–U.S. and USP–India. His department supports the work of the associated USP Expert Committees.
Edwin Gump, Ph.D., Vice President Small Molecules
Ed Gump is currently the Vice President of the Small Molecules Department at USP, which develops USP documentary standards for prescription and Over-the-Counter (OTC) medicines.
Horacio Pappa, Ph.D., Senior Director General Chapters
Horacio Pappa is currently the Senior Director of the General Chapters Department He provides scientific leadership to a team of scientific liaisons responsible for the activities of seven different expert committees that cover the majority of the USP General Chapters.
